The best way to deepen the pocket is to wrap the glove around a ball, particularly a large ball like a softball. This will help create a bigger, deeper pocket.

The Rawlings Pro Preferred and Heart of the Hide models are good quality for high school. So are the Wilson A2K’s or 2000’s and Mizuno Pro Serires. For a middle infield position you really want a glove that is a little smaller like a 11 1/2 or 12. That way you can get the ball out of your glove as quick as posible.

Using motor oil on a glove is not a good idea. Most of the glove oils around have lanolin in them, which is easy absorbed into the glove leather without making it too heavy. Motor oil might work for lubricating the glove, but it will definitely make it really heavy and greasy.

the best way to break in a baseball glove is to leave it alone except for using it for it’s intended purpose…catching baseballs. No shaving cream or rubber bands are necessary.
