January28

On April 25, 1976 at Dodger Stadium, Rick Monday of the Chicago Cubs, grabbed and secured the American flag from two muslims attempting to burn our flag in the middle of the playing field. It was an outstanding display of American Patriotism.

Folks, this shows true love of our country. I’m proud that it is becoming more prevalent. I became misty-eyed.

Too bad the players didnt all join in and beat the living crap out of those flag-burning scumbags..

Should have kicked the hell out of them with their cleats.

You mean the same schools that in the name of free speech allow Ann Coulter and David Horowitz to come to campus and peddle their crap? You might have something there.

Man’s name was William Errol Thomas, 37, from Eldon, MO. He said he had decided to stage a protest because his wife was being held illegally against her will in a mental institution. He was fined $60 for trespassing and placed on probation for a year. His 11-year-old son was treated as a juvenile offender. That’s from the Baseball Think Factory website. References to them being Muslim are only when someone posts this video along with the description. Do you have a link to back your hearsay up?

I’m going to assume you have a link to a news agency or other credible website that backs that up, right? Or, let me guess, this was a friend of a friend of the security guard’s nephew’s girlfriend’s cousin’s babysitter that told you that? Other than other video bloggers copying that same statement, I have yet to ever hear of or find a credible baseball-related site that says they were Muslims. I expect you’ll have some supporting info we can all read.

Yes they were both American citizens and they were indeed both muslims, father and son confirmed by an off duty police officer in attendance at the game who went to the security room where the two were taken for interrogation after the incident.

The two flag burners were not muslims. They were americans protesting against i don’t know what, but THEY WERE NOT MUSLIMS!

I love how so many people get so excited about something that happened more than 30 years ago. The thing that amazes me about the video is how these two guys seem to be almost camped out in left field for what seems like forever before anybody else appears onscreen. Of course this couldn’t happen today – set foot on a field and you’ll be arrested almost immediately. But I do think most pro players would have reacted the same way, even today.

True. Flag burning goes on all the time at colleges. All the time. Mommy and Daddy pay tuition to have junior get indoctrinated and become a future automaton. Sad.

  17. On January 28th, 2010 at 3:01 pm humbleradio Says:

How do you feel about hate crimes, forbidden use of certain words on college campuses? Those laws are already in place and being enforced as we speak. They get little air time and even less debate. That great pillar is being chipped at very quietly at this very moment all across college campuses in America.

“So why did the two fans decide to make a rush for the field and attempt to incinerate the flag? The father, a 37-year-old man named William Errol Thomas from Eldon, Missouri, explained that he had decided to stage a protest because his wife was being held illegally against her will in a mental institution. Aside from public ridicule, Thomas incurred minimal legal punishment for his actions. He was fined $60 for trespassing and placed on probation for a year.”

Someone else also asked about this in a previous comment so I’ll just copy and paste once again: ‘They were indeed both muslims, father and son confirmed by an off duty police officer in attendance at the game who went to the security room where the two were taken for interrogation after the incident.’

  21. On January 28th, 2010 at 4:02 pm joshpnw Says:

Great story, but how do you know they were muslims?

I did some checking only found that they were “protesters.”… it didn’t say they were muslim anywhere.

Not saying you’re wrong, just like to get the facts straight before recommending this to friends.

    Thanks,
    Josh

A bit of one, but as far as public safety issues go, this specific case pretty low on the list.

And again: *even Rick Monday* didn’t claim it was an issue of public safety. Trying to say that’s the primary focus is absurd to say the least.
