Bullshit, eh? We STILL had a fairly good attendance record in the 60s. Even with Mario, he still won two Art Ross Trophies (88 AND 89). If you guys didn't beat us up in 89, we would've kicked your ass. Even when we had Rob Brown AND Zarly Zalapski, we were a better team than you were. To my best knowledge we were the SIXTH best team that year. Still, Pittsburgh may not have a GREAT attendance, but like I said, you want to see PERFECT attendance, the Blackhawks had the best attendance in 2009.

You started the conversation with attendance. And I was COMPARING your attendance with Chicago's! Well yeah, Mario saved the franchise TWICE. No OTHER player in sports history could do what Mario EVER did, which was to take ownership of a sports team. Don't forget that we had one of the best GMs of all time, Craig Patrick as well.

this is between pitt and philly, not chicago. our city has one of the best fan bases in all of sports. i am just saying we have always have had fans come to the flyers game. but in pitts case people came out to support the team after you got crosby and malkin,

Those two weren't the only players that caused more Pens fans to come to the Igloo. True your fanbase is one of the biggest in the NHL, and so is Pittsburgh's. Think about all the other Pens players other than Lemieux, such as Jaromir Jagr, Kevin Stevens, Tom Barrasso, Joe Mullen, and Larry Murphy.

It was due to bankruptcy. In '75, due to the fact that creditors demanded paybacks of debt. Our ownership had to padlock the office, however if it wasn't for the DeBartelow Family, and their patriarch, Edward J. DeBartelow, we would've lost the hockey team.

1998-99 - After the piss-poor ownership of Howard Baldwin and Morris Belzberg, Baldwin asked the Pittsburgh team to defer their salaries. Combined with other pressures, we had to declare bankruptcy AGAIN. And Mario saved us, again.

@irishman89

True too. The death and loss of Michel Briere is also another reason why we didn't have good players like you guys did (Clarke, Parent, Barber, etc.). Still Philly does have a STRONG fanbase.

I'm glad we can end this on the right foot. But I will ALWAYS be a Pittsburgh Penguins fan 'til death.
