Folks, the 99 vs. 66 vs 4 argument doean’t even begin until No’s 99 & 66 start to win Selke Trophies as best defensive forward. Orr won scoring titles, MVP’s and Norris trophies…to my knowledge the other guys only won MVP’s and scoring titles. 4 did it all!

Everyone here in Nova Scotia is Crosby obsessed…now Sid is a great character and hockey player….but he doesn’t have anything on Number 4 Bobby Orr

A finer gentleman than Bobby Orr has never lived. Yes, he was a great player,
probably the best ever. But he’s an even
    better human being.

I haven’t seen anybody skate wherever he wants and keep the puck as long as he wants like Orr did.

The young guys tell me that Wayne was better than Bobby and I just say “watch the game”. Watch the game and you’ll understand that there was no one better.

btw, when i say 6 i mean 6 since Orr was so good between the goal posts, he could play goalie!

6 Orr’s could be any 6 of anybody else! 6 Gretzky’s or anyone! He was unbelievable!

@MegaMma4life A defenceman winning the scoring title is just crazy, it will never happen again, that’s why bobby is the best.

  12. On March 25th, 2010 at 3:07 pm RoyProductions101 Says:

Even though he got hit by Eagleson something was going to happen eventually, you don’t play the way he plays and not get hit, it just doesn’t happen.

  13. On March 25th, 2010 at 3:17 pm MegaMma4life Says:

@jessc1979 all the knee on knees players couldent catch him so the dive at his leggs whitch is nasty and destroys your leg and they would stick his leg out to trip him he is the best there ever will be never be another bobby orr

Now that’s a big 3! I think the OIlers wouldv’e had a tough time playing against those guys.

  15. On March 25th, 2010 at 4:37 pm a3her Says:

@jessc1979 yup..insane stats considering his first year was original 6 and a very, very poor team..second year he was badly hurt…insane stats.

  16. On March 25th, 2010 at 5:13 pm a3her Says:

@slapshot254 and Brad Park…holy crap…that would have been unbelievable…insane pk and pp.

  17. On March 25th, 2010 at 5:42 pm slapshot254 Says:

He was targeted and he, as they said in the video, took risks with his body that no other player did.

  18. On March 25th, 2010 at 6:24 pm slapshot254 Says:

Can you imagine if he stayed healthy and Eagleson didn’t fuck him over. A powerplay thru the early to mid 80’s quarterbacked by Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque. I mean there’s no guarantee that Bourque would have ended up a Bruin if Bobby was still playing but the thought is ridiculous.

  19. On March 25th, 2010 at 6:31 pm jessc1979 Says:

If you look all time career points-per-game, Bobby Orr is #4 all time. That’s amazing. The top 2 are (naturally) Gretzky and Lemieux. #3 is Mike Bossy but his career was short *and* mostly healthy.

Now, Orr’s career *was* short but he was mostly injured and a defenseman. So except for those 3 (and one could argue to discount Bossy) no FORWARD has ever had higher career PPG than Orr.

Not Sakic, Yzerman, Jagr, Dionne, Howe, Ovechkin or Crosby. Wow.

  20. On March 25th, 2010 at 7:00 pm jessc1979 Says:

This might seem like an ignorant question, but I’m not old enough to have seen Bobby Orr play. So my question, since there have other fast skaters in NHL history, why was Bobby Orr particularly injury prone compared to the others?

Was it because he was a defenceman and had to skate past more opponents than a forward? Was he especially targeted?

  21. On March 25th, 2010 at 7:35 pm jessc1979 Says:

Yeah, I think so too. He’s at least one of the top 3 players of all time (if not #1), his career was short *and* he played injured a lot of the time.

Howe and Gretzky and long and mostly healthy careers. Lemieux was injured a lot but his career was long. Bossy’s was short but he was healthy the first 9 of his 10 seasons.

So Orr’s lost is the definitely the most hurtful.

  22. On March 25th, 2010 at 8:12 pm slapshot254 Says:

Gordie Howe said that the greatest lost in hockey history was and I quote, “losing Bobby Orr.” There you go from Mr. Hockey himself.

  23. On March 25th, 2010 at 8:51 pm TheHockeyCentral Says:

@maharri 100% agreed. He controlled the game. As a defenseman.

    End of argument right there.

  24. On March 25th, 2010 at 9:09 pm maharri Says:

Nilkman, I take it that you are not familiar with the concept of relativity?

  25. On March 25th, 2010 at 10:09 pm maharri Says:

Bobby Orr is the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of skates.

Any resonable hockey fan with half a brain knows this. lol
